What Is the 10X Rule

 

The 10X Rule is the only thing that will guarantee that you will get what you want in greater amounts than you ever thought you could imagine. It can work in all areas of life: spiritual, physical, mental, emotional, family, and financial. The 10X Rule is based on understanding how much effort and thought it takes to do anything successfully. Chances are, if you look back on your life, you will see that you have vastly underestimated both the actions and reasoning required to bring any endeavor to the point where it could be labeled successful. Although I have done well in the first part of the 10X Rule (assessing the level of effort required to reach a goal), I failed in the second part of the 10X Rule: adjusting my thinking to dare to dream at levels sooner. unimaginable. I will discuss both facets in detail. I have been studying success for the better part of three decades and have found that while there is much agreement on goal setting, discipline, persistence, focus, time management, leverage through good people, and networking, I’ve never been clear. one thing that really makes a difference. I have been asked hundreds of times in seminars and interviews, “What is that quality/action/mindset that will ensure a person achieves extraordinary success?” This question has prompted me to understand if there was one thing in my own life that made the difference: “What one thing have I done that made the biggest difference?” I don’t have some genes that others lack, and I definitely haven’t had any luck. I wasn’t connected to the “right” people, and I didn’t go to a blue-blooded school. So what was it that made me successful? When I look back on my life, I see that the most consistent thing with any success I have achieved was that I always did 10 times more activity than everyone else. For every sales presentation, phone call, or appointment that others made, I was making 10 of each. When I started buying real estate, I looked at 10 times more properties than I could afford and then made offers to make sure I could buy what I wanted at the price I wanted.

I have approached all my business ventures with massive action; that has been the biggest determining factor in any success I have created. I was a complete unknown when I built my first company without a business plan. I had no technical knowledge or connections, and the only money I had was generated from new sales. However, I was able to build a strong and viable business simply by using and operating at levels of activity far beyond what others considered reasonable. I made a name for myself and literally changed an industry as a result. Let me be clear here: I do not believe that I have created extraordinary levels of success, nor do I believe that I have realized my full potential. I am fully aware that there are many people who are many times more successful, at least financially, than I am. Although I am not Warren Buffett, Steve Jobs, or one of the founders of Facebook or Google, I have created several companies from scratch that have allowed me to have an overall enjoyable lifestyle.

The reason I didn’t create extraordinary levels of financial success is that I violated the second part of the 10X Rule: the 10X mindset. That would be my only regret: not approaching my life with the right mindset. In fact, he would have set goals that were 10 times more than he had originally dreamed of. But, like you, I’m working on it now, and I still have a few years to fix it. I mention the notion of creating “extraordinary levels” of success over and over again throughout this book. Extraordinary by definition means anything outside the realm of what most normal people can and do achieve. And, of course, that definition would depend on who or what kind of success you’re comparing yourself to. Before you say, “I don’t need extraordinary levels of success” or “success isn’t everything” or “I just want to be happy” or whatever else you’re muttering to yourself right now, understand something: to get to the next level of whatever you are doing, you must think and act in a very different way than you have done before. You can’t move on to the next phase of a project without a bigger mindset, more acceleration and extra power. Your thoughts and actions are the reasons why you are where you are now. So it would be reasonable to suspect both.
