Overview of Pharmacy Technician Exam Certification and Review Pdf Free

According to Jodi Dreiling, Kristy Malacos, Allison Cannon, and Eric Schmidt to practice successfully as a pharmacy technician, it is important to understand pharmacology, or how medications work in the body. This chapter includes the commercial and generic names of the drugs, the indication, common adverse effects and drug interactions, as well as the pharmaceutical forms and routes of administration. The chapter is divided by drug category, with the top 200 drugs in bold throughout the chapter and examples of other drugs within each class.
A drug interaction occurs when one drug affects the activity of another drug when they are given together. There are multiple mechanisms by which this can occur and it has the potential to increase or decrease the action of the drug. Examples of potential interactions include drug-disease, drug-dietary supplements, over-the-counter drug, drug-laboratory, and drug-nutrient interactions.
Food can interact with medications at many stages. The most common effect is that food interferes with the absorption of the drug making it less effective. Food can also affect the way a drug is used, as well as the excretion of the drug. Depending on the medication, some must be taken with food and others without food.
