INDIAN PHARMACOPEIA 2018, 8th Edition 3 Volumes with DVD). IP-2018 Highlights: Taking into account the essential requirement for the harmonization of analytical methods with internationally accepted ones, steps have been taken to monitor drug standards. – General chemical tests and thin-layer chromatography (TLC) for item identification have been virtually eliminated and emphasis has been placed on more specific infrared, ultraviolet, and HPLC spectrophotometer tests. The concept of relying on published infrared spectra as a basis for identification has been maintained. – The use of chromatographic methods has become widespread to address the need for greater specificity in testing and, in particular, in assessing the nature and extent of impurities in ingredients and products. – Most existing analytical test methods and related substances are updated by liquid chromatography in order to harmonize with another international pharmacopoeia. – The pyrogen test has been replaced by the bacterial endotoxin test (BET) in parenteral preparations and other monographs. – To facilitate access and make the Pharmacopoeia easier to use, the Index was incorporated in Volume I together with the one that already exists in Volume IV of IP. – 53 new fixed-dose combinations (FDC’s) monographs have been included, of which 25 FDC monographs are not available in any pharmacopoeia. – General chapters on volumetric glassware, conductivity, dissolution test, disintegration test, hard gelatin capsule shell dimensions, etc. have been revised. – For the control of the microbial quality of all medicines, the general chapter on maintenance, identification, conservation and elimination of microorganisms has been revised.
