Many nurses entering the specialty areas of radiologic nursing come from backgrounds very different from our profession. Over the years, I have worked with nurses who have come to radiology from settings including mental health, critical care, medical-surgical, ambulatory, surgical services, group homes. . . the list is endless. They all bring vast and unique experiential knowledge to the radiology environment. Becoming a radiology nurse is an excellent example of Benner’s novice-to-expert theory of nursing.
